(01) Our take
Shopify is where most direct-to-consumer commerce belongs. The platform’s reliability, the app ecosystem, and the headless options via Hydrogen and Oxygen give us a range we’d struggle to match on a bespoke stack. The work we do on Shopify spans that range: custom theme builds when the brand story fits within the theme architecture, fully headless Hydrogen storefronts when it doesn’t, and Shopify app development for the client-specific workflows the app store doesn’t cover.
We do the bespoke headless work more often than simple theme customisation, because the clients who come to us tend to have already outgrown the theme ceiling. Editorial-feeling DTC, subscription commerce, complex product configurators, storefronts that double as content experiences — these are Hydrogen’s sweet spot, and we’ve shipped enough of them to know where it bites. We’re candid about the trade-offs: headless commerce shifts complexity from Shopify’s platform to your team’s codebase, and it’s only the right answer when the brand experience genuinely earns it.
On the theme side, we write custom Liquid with the same care we’d write React. We don’t layer page builders on top of the theme; we write the components once, document them for the merchandising team, and ship an admin experience that respects the editors. When a theme needs custom JavaScript, we treat it as a real codebase — TypeScript, bundled, tested, versioned.
Shopify app development is the third lane. Internal apps for merchandising workflows, customer-facing apps for the merchant’s storefront, B2B apps for wholesale customers — all of it is work we can take on, using the App Bridge and the modern Shopify admin APIs. Apps take longer than theme work by a factor, but they outlast platform migrations and theme rewrites in a way themes don’t.
(02) What we build
Typical work
- Custom Shopify themes (Liquid, modern theme architecture)
- Headless Hydrogen storefronts with Oxygen or Vercel deployment
- Shopify app development (internal, customer-facing, or B2B)
- Custom checkout extensions and subscription logic
- Shopify Plus builds with Shopify Functions and B2B features
(03) Is this for you
When to pick this
- Your brand has outgrown the theme ceiling and the storefront is meaningfully holding the business back.
- You’re launching an editorial DTC brand and the story needs more than theme-level polish.
- You run a Shopify business and the workflow gap you’re trying to close needs a custom app, not a third-party one.
- You’re migrating from another platform and Shopify is the right destination.
When not to pick this
- A well-chosen Shopify theme covers 90% of your needs. Spend the money on brand, photography, and conversion work instead.
- Your commerce shape is genuinely unusual (heavy B2B with approval workflows, rental models, service bookings). Shopify may not be the right platform at all.
- You want to “leave Shopify” and build bespoke. Usually the right answer is to make Shopify work harder.
(04) Engagement shape
How we engage
Custom theme work: 6–12 weeks. Headless Hydrogen rebuilds: 12–24 weeks. App development: 6–16 weeks depending on surface area.

Deliverable
The headline artefact
A Shopify storefront or app that behaves like a bespoke build, with a codebase your team can extend without fighting the platform.
