(01) Our take

CakePHP had its moment, and for a specific generation of PHP applications — roughly 2010 to 2016 — it was a genuinely good framework. We still inherit codebases built on it, especially in non-profit, government, and long-tail enterprise contexts where the software has outlived several refresh cycles.

We won't recommend CakePHP for anything greenfield. Laravel has eaten the PHP framework lane completely, and the maintenance burden of staying on CakePHP increases every year. But for clients who need feature work on an existing Cake codebase, we'll do it competently — and we'll include a written recommendation on when and how to migrate.

(02) What we build with it

Typical work

  • Maintenance and feature work on existing CakePHP applications
  • Security and compatibility upgrades for older Cake versions
  • CakePHP-to-Laravel migration planning and execution
  • Audits for teams deciding whether to migrate or rebuild

(03) How we engage

Engagement shape

Typically 4–12 weeks scoped as maintenance or migration-prep engagements. We won't quote greenfield CakePHP work.
